Cross River Shuts Down 13 Illegal Schools in Statewide Crackdown.

The Cross River State Government has closed 13 schools operating without official approval as part of a wider effort to improve education across the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Professor Stephen Odey, explained that schools functioning without the proper Authority to Operate or lacking safe and suitable learning environments will be immediately closed.

Many of the schools affected were reported to have poor facilities and infrastructure, creating unsafe conditions for students.

Authorities warned that any institution that reopens after being sealed will face penalties under state law.

The government made it clear that the campaign is not meant to target legitimate investors in education but is focused on protecting children and maintaining minimum standards.

School owners are urged to obtain the required approvals and meet operational guidelines to avoid sanctions.

The Ministry of Education said the crackdown will continue until all schools in the state meet regulatory standards.

Professor Odey added that Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s administration is dedicated to providing quality education to every child in Cross River State by enforcing rules and removing illegal operators.
