Less than two days before the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Zadna Dantani, has stepped down and pledged support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu.
The move follows a similar withdrawal in Bwari Area Council, where the PDP candidate, Julius Adamu, gave way for APC’s Joshua Ishaku Musa.
Dantani’s decision came after consultations and interventions from senior party leaders, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who advised unity ahead of the local polls.
Dantani said his withdrawal is voluntary and after careful discussions with family members and party stakeholders.
He also submitted the required letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to formalize his exit.
He encouraged his supporters across the 12 wards of AMAC to vote for the APC candidate, describing the elections as a test of community spirit and cooperation.
With Dantani stepping down, the APC candidate now faces a stronger position in the race, as local party alliances continue to shift ahead of Saturday’s polls.
Officials say all legal procedures have been completed to ensure the withdrawal is recognized by the electoral body.
