The Rivers State House of Assembly has put a stop to the impeachment process targeting Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu.
The decision came following the involvement of President Bola Tinubu.
On Thursday, lawmakers in Port Harcourt, the state capital, adopted a resolution to suspend the proceedings during a resumed plenary session.
Earlier in the year, the House had opened impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy, citing alleged misconduct.
Among the claims were the demolition of the State Assembly complex and spending public funds without legislative approval.
The Assembly’s action halts all ongoing impeachment steps, leaving the governor and deputy in office while discussions and investigations into the allegations continue.
