The Yobe State Government has lifted the midnight curfew across the state to allow residents to observe Ramadan without restrictions.
The decision followed a meeting of the State Security Council led by Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana.
Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (retd.), Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, explained that the council reviewed the security situation and agreed that easing the curfew would help Muslim residents carry out religious activities during the fasting period.
Ramadan in Yobe includes events like preaching, seminars, congregational prayers, iftar, and Qiyamul Lail, many of which take place late into the night.
The council assessed these activities alongside the security landscape to ensure people can observe the 30 days of Ramadan safely, with protection for both lives and property.
Authorities warned that criminals could exploit the festive season to commit offenses.
Security agencies have been instructed to step up preventive measures across the state.
Residents are encouraged to provide credible information to help maintain peace during the holy month.
The adviser also noted concerns over illegal mining in the Gulani area of Gulani Local Government, saying that security operatives are actively addressing the issue.
