Sunday, the 22nd of June 2025 is a day the city of Lagos will not forget in a hurry as the state was painted in bright colours with the 50th birthday celebration of the owner and Chairman of 12 Basket, Mr. Michael Afolaranmi.
The 50th birthday party which had in attendance, government functionaries like the permanent secretary in Lagos State, Rasheed Muri Okunola, business associates of the celebrant plus his friends and well-wishers, was held at the prestigious Balmoral Hall of the Lagos Sheraton Hotels. Ikeja as guests were entertained to their limits.

Food was in excess, drinks too was surplus, guests were made to have the fun of their lives with everything. The event was compered by popular MC Ijele, who delivered an electrifying and scintillating performance that night, supported by veteran MC, Gbenga Adeyinka who also made the guests laugh off the night.

Highlight of the birthday celebration was the award of a whooping 300, 000 naira as prize money to the best dressed man at the event.

Michael Owolabi Afolaranmi delivered a heartfelt appreciation address, expressing gratitude to those who had supported him through the journey of life, his family, his friends, and affirmed his commitment to empowering the youth sector, promoting national development and cultural advancement in Nigeria.

Information has it that the name, 12 Basket emanated from the story told in the Bible with the feeding of 5000 people with fish and bread, thus, there was 12 baskets of leftover food symbolizing the 12 tribes of Israel. Then the launch of the now known empire, 12 Basket which started off at Sura Chopping Complex with branches now in Ikeja, Ikorodu, Abuja and with the headquarters in Lekki Lagos.

"News PlatformNG" learned that 12 Basket has over 100 staff and about to open an international branch in Houston Texas to mark her 23rd anniversary in November with a branch at the International Airport in the offing come July.
