Paul Ibe, who serves as the media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has stated that his principal deserves a Nobel Prize for his persistent efforts to become Nigeria’s President.
Atiku, who has been seeking the presidency since 1992, is already being mentioned as a potential candidate for the 2027 presidential election, even though he has not officially announced his interest in the upcoming contest.
While appearing on Trust TV’s programme ‘Daily Politics’ on Thursday, Ibe rejected the claim that Atiku has contested too many times for the presidency.
He said, “Atiku Abubakar has been on the ballot three times for the record. That was in 2007 under the AC, 2019, PDP and 2023, PDP. So, it’s actually three times.”
When it was pointed out that Atiku had been a presidential aspirant five times — in 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023 — Ibe responded, “Atiku Abubakar should get a Nobel Prize for that,” and added, “The former Vice President feels that he has something to offer.”
According to Ibe, Atiku has a sense of duty to the nation because, in his words, “the country has given him so much.”
He said, “Don’t forget, you’ve read his books. What he has said about his life, the man feels obligated to Nigeria, which has given him so much: an opportunity for education when he was young and an opportunity to work in customs. And after he left customs, the man went into business, had foresight about the direction that Nigeria was going to, and set up an oil and gas logistics company.”
Ibe emphasised that Atiku was already a billionaire before assuming office as vice president in 1999. He further claimed that Atiku personally financed the purchase of the Wadata Plaza for the People’s Democratic Party.
Wadata Plaza, located in Abuja, serves as the national headquarters of the PDP.
“Atiku single-handedly bought the Wadata Plaza for the PDP. That was how wealthy he was before entering government,” he said.
