Abbas Swears In Three New Members Of The House.

Speaker.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, administered the oath of office to three newly elected lawmakers on Tuesday, following their success in the bye-elections held on August 16, 2025.

These three individuals are among five lawmakers elected to occupy vacant seats created by the deaths of four members and the nomination of Dennis Idahosa as the running mate to Senator Monday Okpebholo in the 2024 Edo governorship race.

It will be recalled that the House lost four members to illness in 2024, namely Ekene Adams (Kaduna), Isa Dogonyaro (Jigawa), and Olaide Akinremi (Oyo), while Oriyomi Onanuga passed away in 2025.

In response, the Independent National Electoral Commission conducted bye-elections in the affected states in August to fill the vacant positions.

The All Progressives Congress secured victory in four of the five available seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party claimed one seat.

The three lawmakers sworn in on Tuesday include Omosede Igbinedion, representing Ovia South/Ovia West/Ovia North-East Federal Constituency in Edo State; Joseph Bagudu, representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State; and Mukhtar Rabiu, representing Garki/Babura Federal Constituency in Jigawa State.

No explanation was provided regarding the absence of Elegbeji Ayola, who won the seat for Sagamu/Ikenne/Remo North Federal Constituency in Ogun State, and Oyekunle Sunday, who emerged victorious in the Ibadan North constituency.

Among the five elected members, Mr Sunday is the sole representative from the PDP.
