Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dissolved all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions operating within the state.
The directive, which takes effect immediately, was made public in Uyo on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah.
According to the SSG, the governor made the decision under the authority of the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023, and instructed the affected chairmen to hand over to the most senior officers within their respective agencies.
“The governor wishes members of the dissolved boards and commissions well in their future endeavours and commends them for their roles in advancing the ARISE agenda,” Uwah said.
He also directed that any government property in the possession of the affected chairmen be returned to ensure a smooth handover process.
Our correspondent notes that this development represents a significant shift in the governance structure of the state and had previously been hinted at by Governor Eno during a media chat commemorating the 37th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State in 2024.
At that event, the governor had said he was “waiting for the right time” to reorganise his administration and had promised to hold a valedictory session to acknowledge and appreciate commissioners and board members for their service to the state’s development.
It is now widely believed that the dissolution marks the start of a new phase in the governor’s administrative strategy.
