Kano Governor Demands Removal Of Police Commissioner Bakori.

Governor & Police Commissioner.

Governor Abba Yusuf has demanded the immediate dismissal of the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, accusing him of partisanship and unprofessional behaviour, which he claims threatens the peace and stability of the state.

The call was made in a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in which Yusuf expressed strong disapproval over the reported decision by the police to withdraw from participating in the Independence Day celebrations. He alleged that Commissioner Bakori issued the directive just hours before the scheduled event.

The governor described the move as an act of sabotage and a breach of the police’s constitutional responsibility. He insisted that Bakori’s continued presence in Kano represented a threat to public security.

He further alleged that the commissioner was acting in favour of political elements opposing the will of the Kano electorate, referring to him as a “political police officer” working against democratic principles.

This demand follows Bakori’s recent announcement that 105 individuals had been arrested in connection with 30 serious criminal incidents in September, with substantial seizures of weapons and stolen goods.

The Nigerian Police Force has not yet released an official reaction to the accusations made by Governor Yusuf.

Yusuf stated, “The police must never be seen as tools of politicians. They are expected to protect all Nigerians, regardless of political leanings. Unfortunately, CP Bakori has turned himself into a willing instrument of division and insecurity in Kano State.”

The governor explained that he was amplifying the concerns of both stakeholders and residents of Kano, many of whom attended the 2025 Independence Day celebrations held at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata. He called on President Bola Tinubu to instruct the Inspector General of Police to remove CP Bakori from his position and replace him with a capable, neutral officer who can uphold fairness and restore trust in the police force within the state.

Yusuf reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the protection of lives and property and extended appreciation to other security agencies operating in Kano for their continued efforts.

Police spokesman, Superintendent Abdullahi Kiyawa, said that he would address the issue with the reporter at a later time.
