The Lagos State Government has declared that strict enforcement of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes will recommence on Eko Bridge and Odo Iya Alaro Link Bridge starting from Monday, 6 October 2025.
This enforcement operation, which had earlier been suspended on 2 July, was temporarily halted to reduce traffic congestion during repair works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge.
The bridge, which serves as a crucial link between Ogudu and Ifako, underwent structural repairs on its expansion joints, resulting in partial closures and extended traffic delays in the Lagos Mainland.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Tobi Idowu, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Education and Enforcement, stated that the renewed enforcement is in line with the government’s wider traffic management plan.
“Motorists are strongly advised to comply with this directive, as relevant agencies will strictly monitor and enforce adherence to the dedicated BRT corridors,” Idowu stated.
Authorities had previously described the suspension of enforcement as a “transitional and conditional” action intended to ease the burden on commuters during the repair period.
Providing confirmation of the update on X (formerly known as Twitter), Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, posted:
“Now that the Ogudu Bridge repairs have been fully completed and reopened, enforcement of BRT lanes on both Eko Bridge and Odo Iya Alaro will resume on Monday, October 6, 2025.”
The Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, which was reopened on Tuesday, was completed in 78 days, significantly ahead of the original 101-day timeline set for the project.
