A well-known religious leader in Ondo State, Prophet Samson Oluwamodede, has criticised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the poor condition of the heavily used Oke-Aro/Idanre Road located in Akure, the state’s capital.
Prophet Oluwamodede, who serves as the General Overseer of the Prayer Centre of God Worldwide, pledged to rehabilitate the road himself if the governor fails to take action, insisting that numerous lives are being lost daily on the road.
In a 3-minute, 6-second video that has gone viral on social media platforms across the state, the prophet stated that commuters and residents in the areas of Owe-Akala, Abiodun, and Idanre Garage along the road have faced immense difficulty getting to their homes, with large sections of the road now posing serious danger.
While expressing his wish for the governor’s success in office, the prophet pointed out that several other roads across the state, especially within Akure city, are facing similar poor conditions.
“Mr Governor, I called your attention to this road before, and you promised to act. But now, the situation has worsened.
Heavy trucks fall, and people die daily. If nothing is done before Sunday, I will hire a grader and do surface dressing myself, so you won’t be embarrassed.”
In response, Allen Sowore, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Aiyedatiwa on Strategic Communication, said the dual carriageway project on the Oke-Aro/Idanre axis was launched less than six months ago and has been making significant progress.
Sowore said, “It is disheartening to see torrents of criticism over a project that is very much alive. Rome was not built in a day. The current discomfort is temporary; the benefits will last for decades.”
