A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared his intention to run in the 2026 governorship election in Osun State on the APC platform.
Omisore, who previously served as deputy governor of the state, made the announcement in a post on his X handle on Saturday, stating that the official declaration would be held on Tuesday, 7th October 2025, at the Osun APC Secretariat in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo.
The event, themed “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams,” is set to take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, 7th October 2025.
“My beloved people of Osun State, after deep reflection and wide consultations, I have decided to formally declare my intention to contest for the Governor of Osun State in 2026 under our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Omisore wrote.
He further stated that his campaign would centre on restoring hope, improving governance, and providing a better future for the citizens of the state.
“This is not just my mission, it is a collective one. I humbly invite you to join me as we take this bold step towards the Osun Rescue Mission 2026,” he said.
Omisore, who had contested the 2014 Osun governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before joining the APC, is expected to be one of the leading contenders for the party’s ticket.
He served as Osun’s deputy governor from 1999 to 2003 under the Alliance for Democracy and later represented Osun East in the Senate from 2003 to 2011.
During his time in the National Assembly, he also held the position of Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
He ran for the Osun governorship seat in 2014 under the Peoples Democratic Party but was defeated by the then-incumbent governor, Rauf Aregbesola.
Following a brief affiliation with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), under which he contested the 2018 election, Omisore joined the APC in 2021 and became National Secretary just thirteen months later during the party’s national convention in Abuja, after his primary opponent stepped down.
