The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has urged the Federal Government to immediately end what it described as favouritism in the administration of the health sector.

The PSN called on the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to stop what it termed as giving preference to doctors over other health professionals.

The association appealed to the government to promote fairness and create an equal platform for all professionals in the country’s health sector.

The President of PSN, Pharmacist Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, made these remarks during a pre-conference press briefing held on Tuesday in Lagos.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Ibrahim called on the federal government to end all forms of favouritism within the health sector.

He further advised that the government should treat every professional group in the sector with equal respect and opportunity.

Ibrahim cautioned that biased policies and preferential treatment have continued to cause division and inefficiency in the delivery of quality healthcare services.

He accused the federal government of showing indifference and bias in the management of the nation’s health system.

He added that such discriminatory behaviour could continue to undermine fairness, professional unity, and effectiveness within the sector.

He said, “We call on the federal government to ensure fairness and equity among all health professionals.

“There has been too much bias in the management of our health system, and it is time to correct this.

“Pharmacy and other professions within the health sector deserve the same recognition, consideration, and opportunities to serve.

“The time has come to eliminate favouritism and bias in the sector.

“We need a health system that rewards competence, not connections.”
