REBUTTAL: Ohaneze Youth Council Dissociates Self From Planned Shutdown Protest For The Release Of Nnamdi Kanu.

Nnamdi Kanu.

The Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC) Worldwide, led by its National President, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboyaka, in a press release, has disassociated itself from the planned shutdown of all Igbo shops, markets, Companies and businesses across Nigeria, on 20th October 2025, in solidarity with the Pan Nigeria protest for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

According to Igboyaka, the protest, which is being spearheaded by a human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore is inimical to peace and could be exploited by mischief makers to cause breakdown of law and order.

Also, he noted that closing down shops, businesses and Companies will be detrimental to innocent citizens, particularly those who rely on these businesses for their livelihood.

He warned that the decision to shut down businesses in support of Sowore's protest would be unproductive and likened it to self-harm. He emphasized that Igbo people are renowned for their entrepreneurial spirit, and complying with Sowore's call would be detrimental to their own interests, given his alleged anti-Igbo stance.

Consequently, he advised Sowore to exclude Igbo people from his anti-presidency campaign, noting that Igbo youth appreciate and supports the President's developmental efforts. Instead, Sowore should exploit diplomatic means and dialogue to appeal for Kanu's release, so as to avoid unnecessary tension.

Additionally, he urged business owners to ignore the shutdown directive and continue their legitimate activities without fear.
