The Federal Government has transferred Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to a correctional facility in Sokoto State, according to his former lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor.
Kanu was relocated from the Department of State Services (DSS) detention centre in Abuja less than a day after Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The judge had found him guilty on several terrorism-related charges following years of legal proceedings.
Ejimakor confirmed the transfer in a post on X on Friday, warning that the move would make access to Kanu more difficult for both his legal team and his family.
He wrote: “MAZI NNAMDI KANU has just been moved from DSS Abuja to the correctional facility (prison) in Sokoto; so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones and well-wishers.”
