FULL LIST: AFCON Winners From 1957 Till Date.

Senegal on Sunday secured the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, title after edging host nation Morocco 1–0 in extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The final was marred by controversy late in normal time when Democratic Republic of Congo referee, Jean Jacques Ndala Ngambo, awarded Morocco a penalty in the eighth minute of stoppage time following a VAR review. Senegal defender El Hadji Malick Diouf was ruled to have fouled Brahim Diaz during a corner situation.

Angered by the decision, Senegal players briefly left the pitch on the directive of head coach Pape Thiaw, resulting in a 13-minute stoppage. Team captain Sadio Mané later convinced his teammates to return to play.

Morocco failed to take advantage of the opportunity as Brahim Diaz missed the penalty, enabling Senegal to force the match into extra time.

The decisive moment came in the fourth minute of extra time when Pape Gueye unleashed a brilliant strike after a quick counterattack sparked by Mané. Senegal then defended resolutely to quieten the home supporters and clinch the trophy.

The win represents Senegal’s second AFCON title in three tournaments, further establishing them as one of Africa’s leading football nations.
