The Sokoto State Government has been presented with the findings of a judicial commission that investigated financial activities under former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
The panel’s report claimed that more than ₦117 billion may have been misused during Tambuwal’s eight years in office.
The commission, led by retired Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga, submitted its report to the state government on Tuesday.
It stated that the investigation revealed multiple financial irregularities, including breaches of laws, weak controls, and misuse of authority in the previous administration.
The inquiry traced much of the alleged mismanagement to failure in following procurement rules and poor financial oversight.
It also examined the actions of top officials in the state government during Tambuwal’s term.
Justice Pindiga explained that the report is organized into five sections.
These cover the background of the inquiry, statements from witnesses, detailed findings, recommendations, and a final summary intended to guide government action.
The commission reviewed contracts, financial records, and other documents while hearing from stakeholders across ministries, departments, and agencies connected to the administration.
The chairman praised the members of the panel for their professionalism and dedication, describing the investigation as thorough and impartial.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, while receiving the report, clarified that the commission’s work is part of the state’s constitutional duty and not intended as a political attack.
He announced plans to set up a committee that will draft a white paper from the report and assured that the process will be handled fairly and transparently for everyone involved.
