Abducted Kaduna Worshippers Regain Freedom From Kidnappers Den.

Residents of Kurmin Wali in the Kufana area of Kajuru Local Government, Kaduna State, have regained their freedom weeks after being kidnapped in a church attack.

The release brought relief to the community that had been living in fear since the incident.

The abductions occurred on January 18, 2026, when gunmen attacked the town at dawn while worshippers were attending a church service.

Reports indicate that a total of 177 people were taken, though some managed to escape into nearby forests, including about 80 mostly children, roughly two weeks after the attack.

Local sources confirmed that the remaining victims were freed late Wednesday night.

Eyewitnesses described seeing heavy vehicles moving into a forest near Maro town between 11 p.m. and midnight, and returning in the early hours of Thursday with the abducted residents.

The circumstances of their release remain unclear, and it is not known whether any ransom was paid or demands met.

The village head of Kurmin Wali, Ishaku Dan’azumi, welcomed the news, thanking the Kaduna State Government and security agencies for their efforts.

He confirmed that those released included women, children, and adults, though he did not provide further details.

Security officials also confirmed the release, stating that the residents were returned late Thursday night.

The Kaduna State Government has not yet issued an official statement on the development.
