A Kano State High Court has fixed April 15 to hear all pending applications in the ongoing trial involving former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and other defendants over alleged diversion of public funds.
Ganduje is facing trial alongside his wife, Hafsat Umar, on an 11-count charge linked to bribery, conspiracy, misappropriation and diversion of public funds said to run into billions of naira.
Other defendants in the case include Abubakar Bawuro, Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Ltd, Safari Textiles Ltd and Lasage General Enterprises Ltd.
When the matter came up in court, the prosecution informed the judge that the state was ready to move forward with the trial.
The prosecuting lawyer, Victor Oni, told the court that an application dated November 24, 2025, had been filed, seeking permission to submit more evidence against the defendants.
Lawyer to the first and second defendants, Lydia Oluwakemi-Oyewo, also told the court that the defence was prepared to proceed.
She added that the defence had earlier filed an application dated July 17, 2025, asking the court to halt the trial.
Counsel representing the third and seventh defendants, Adekunle Taiye-Falola, said he was equally ready to proceed and drew the court’s attention to an application dated May 23, 2025.
For the fifth defendant, Muhammad Shehu informed the court that he had filed an affidavit to notify the court of an application seeking a stay of proceedings at the Court of Appeal.
The lawyer to the sixth defendant, Abubakar Ahmad, told the court that he had filed a notice of preliminary objection along with an application asking for more time to respond on points of law.
He asked the court to fix a date to hear his application. Counsel to the eighth defendant, Faruk Asekome, also said he was ready to proceed with the case.
After hearing from all parties, the trial judge, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, adjourned the matter to April 15 for the hearing of all preliminary objections and pending applications.
