The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has asked former National Chairman and ex-Governor, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, to clear debts it claims he owes the party.
According to the Edo APC, the amount relates to loans and unpaid membership dues accumulated during Oyegun’s time as a member and national leader.
The party said Oyegun has ignored multiple requests for repayment, putting the total owed at more than ₦150 million.
Edo APC Chairman Jarrett Tenebe explained that the demand became necessary after repeated efforts to get the former chairman to meet his financial obligations reportedly failed.
Oyegun, however, rejected the claims, calling them unfounded and suggesting they reflect unease within the APC due to the growth of his new party, the African Democratic Congress.
He argued that the APC’s approach is hostile rather than focused on political dialogue.
A political aide to Oyegun also challenged the Edo APC’s statements, insisting that Tenebe had no authority to question the former national chairman’s record or conduct an audit of his leadership.
The aide described Oyegun as having a respected reputation that helped the APC succeed in past elections.
Oyegun reaffirmed his commitment to political engagement through lawful and constructive means, stating that the ADC is ready to continue its activities and respond appropriately to any challenges posed by rival parties.
