Ex Benue Govenor Suswam Dumps PDP.

Former Benue State governor and senator, Gabriel Suswam, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Suswam announced his decision in a letter he personally signed and sent to his ward in Mbagber Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The letter was made available to journalists in Makurdi on Wednesday.

He said leaving the party was a difficult decision, noting that the PDP gave him the chance to serve Nigeria in different roles over the years.

He recalled serving as a member of the House of Representatives, governor of Benue State for two terms, and later as a senator under the platform of the party.

He expressed appreciation for the trust and opportunities given to him during his time in the PDP.

Suswam explained that his decision was mainly due to the persistent internal problems facing the party.

He said the PDP, which once stood for unity, internal democracy, and strong opposition politics, is now weighed down by continuous internal conflicts.

According to him, the crises within the party cut across leadership, structure, discipline, and ideology.

He added that several attempts by well-meaning party members to resolve these issues had failed, leaving the party stuck in a state of constant turmoil.

He stated that despite the setting up of committees, reconciliation efforts, and repeated assurances to members and the public, the party has remained deeply divided and unable to move forward in a clear direction.

Suswam said that as someone who believes in democratic values, he could no longer align his personal beliefs and political goals with the present condition of the PDP.

He noted that political parties should serve as platforms for ideas, order, and constructive engagement, not places of endless internal battles.

He added that staying in the party would no longer allow him to contribute meaningfully to national development within a stable and functional political environment.

The former governor said he considered it proper to step aside while wishing the party well if it is able to resolve its long-running internal issues in the future.

He also asked that his appreciation be passed on to party members at all levels for the years they spent working together.

Suswam’s resignation adds to the growing list of high-profile exits linked to the ongoing internal struggles within the PDP.
