Flights Resume At Enugu Airport After Workers’ Protest.

Flight services have restarted at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu after aviation workers ended a shutdown linked to the Federal Government’s plan to concession the facility.

The disruption, which occurred on Friday, February 6, 2026, followed protests by airport workers who opposed the move approved by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

The workers said the plan was taken without proper talks with aviation unions, leading to a temporary halt in activities at the airport.

During the protest, access to the terminal was blocked, forcing many passengers to remain stranded while scheduled flights were delayed or cancelled.

The action came weeks after the minister signed documents in mid-January to begin the concession process for the Enugu airport.

Aviation unions, including the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, the National Union of Air Transport Employees and the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals, had earlier written to the minister to oppose the move.

In the letter signed by their general secretaries, the unions raised concerns about the process and warned that airport operations could be affected if their objections were ignored.

About nine days after the letter was sent, workers reportedly moved to shut down activities at the airport, stopping both passengers and vehicles from entering the premises and affecting flight operations.

An update later issued by Enugu Air informed passengers that normal activities had returned at the airport.

The airline explained that while operations were back on track, some morning flights were disrupted by the protest and might be rescheduled.

Passengers were advised to confirm their flight details before heading to the airport to avoid delays.

Efforts to get a response from the spokesperson of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Henry Agbebire, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to him were not answered as of the time of filing this report.
