Former Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Babatunde Osokoya is dead.
Osokoya, who is also a former Head of Service, passed away at 81 after a brief illness at a private hospital in Abeokuta.
Osokoya, an experienced administrator from Omu-Ijebu, had remained active in public life and recently took part in events marking Ogun State’s 50th anniversary.
Governor Dapo Abiodun described Osokoya’s passing as a deep loss for the state, noting that he was full of life during the state’s golden jubilee celebrations.
Osokoya had a long and distinguished career in the civil service, rising to Permanent Secretary at 35 and later serving as Secretary to the State Government and Head of Service until his retirement in 1996.
He was also Chairman of the Ogun State Civil Service Commission from 2003 to 2011.
Beyond his official duties, Osokoya was known for mentoring young people, supporting youth development, and contributing to football programs that nurtured local talent.
He also remained committed to the welfare of retired civil servants through his leadership of the state’s association of former senior officers.
The governor expressed condolences to Osokoya’s family, the civil service community, and the people of Ogun State, praying for the peaceful rest of a respected elder statesman whose life left a lasting mark on governance and public service.
