The Nigeria Immigration Service has launched a full investigation after allegations surfaced online accusing one of its officers of detaining and sexually assaulting a Nigerian woman.
The agency described the claims as serious and said any form of misconduct by its staff goes against its professional standards.
NIS confirmed it would hold any personnel found guilty accountable through disciplinary and legal measures.
The allegations, reported by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism, involved a 21-year-old woman from Akwa Ibom State.
The report claimed she was arrested by an immigration officer named Isa Makama and held for several days at a private location instead of an official detention facility.
During this period, she was said to have faced repeated assault.
The report added that the woman was released only after outside intervention.
NIS did not confirm the specific details of the incident but said the investigation aims to establish the facts and ensure those responsible are disciplined.
The agency also assured the public that it will not protect any officer who violates the rights or dignity of individuals.
This investigation follows growing concerns over misconduct within government agencies and aims to restore public trust.
