Iran has announced it will take strong action after Israel and the United States carried out attacks on its territory, even as discussions continued over Tehran’s nuclear program.
The Iranian government said it had done everything it could to avoid conflict but is now ready to defend the country.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards confirmed that the first wave of missile and drone attacks targeted Israel in response to the strikes.
The statement described the attacks as wide-ranging and aimed at Israeli positions.
In Iraq, a military base hosting a pro-Iran group was hit by a bombing, resulting in casualties.
The Jurf al-Sakher base, mostly occupied by Kataeb Hezbollah fighters under the Popular Mobilisation Forces, was the site of the attack.
Local sources reported at least two fighters were killed and several others wounded.
The attacks come amid rising tensions in the region, with Iran signaling that it is prepared to continue its response while still open to negotiations if possible.
