Ondo University Student Drowns In Swimming Pool.

Two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, have lost their lives after an incident at a hotel swimming pool where a party was held for newly admitted students.

The incident happened on January 29, 2026, and was confirmed on Tuesday by the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.

The students were identified as Oludere Opeyemi, aged 22, and Adegbola Blessing, aged 19.

Police reports showed that Adegbola Blessing was first found unconscious in the swimming pool at about 8:00 pm.

He was rescued by the pool manager, given first aid, and later regained consciousness. After he was able to stand, his friends took him home.

Not long after, Oludere Opeyemi was also found unconscious inside the same swimming pool.

He was quickly rescued and taken to the State Hospital in Ikare-Akoko, where doctors later confirmed that he had died.

Following the incident, officers from the Akungba Divisional Police Station arrived at the hotel that same night to begin preliminary investigations.

The hotel manager, Ayomide Badejo, and the pool manager were invited for questioning.

Further developments were recorded in the early hours of January 30, 2026, when police received information that Adegbola Blessing, who had earlier been rescued, had also died.

As a result, the case was transferred to the police command’s Monitoring Unit for a careful and detailed investigation.

The bodies of both students have been taken to the State Hospital mortuary in Ikare-Akoko for preservation and autopsy.

Police authorities said investigations are still ongoing to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
