Senator Adams Oshiomhole has reacted to a viral video showing him giving a woman a massage inside a private jet, saying the clip is not real and was created with artificial intelligence.
The video spread widely on social media and triggered strong reactions from Nigerians.
Many users attacked the former Edo State governor over what they saw as a show of wealth at a time when many citizens are struggling with rising living costs.
The backlash also grew because of past remarks linked to the senator on food prices.
In response, Oshiomhole’s media office released a statement on Wednesday rejecting the video and insisting it was fake.
The office said the footage was poorly edited and produced by people trying to blackmail the senator and damage his public image.
According to the statement, a close look at the clip shows clear signs of digital alteration.
The media team pointed to noticeable flaws in the video, especially around the six-second point of the roughly 30-second clip, which they said proves the use of artificial intelligence and video manipulation.
The media office also warned that the video was part of a wider attempt to harass and attack the senator online.
It described the act as cyber bullying and said steps would be taken to trace those behind the content and its publication.
The statement accused some online platforms and content creators of spreading false information for attention, clicks and online earnings, without proper checks or investigation.
It added that such practices are becoming common and are creating problems for public figures in the country.
Oshiomhole’s team urged Nigerians and media organizations to always verify information before sharing or forming opinions about public office holders.
They also called on authorities to pay closer attention to activities on social media to reduce the spread of fake content, while noting that content creation should be done through honest and lawful means.
