PDP Faction Condemns INEC Recognition Of Wike’s Committee.

The Kabiru Turaki-led group in the Peoples Democratic Party has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission for officially recognising the caretaker committee backed by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesome Wike.

The Turaki faction called the move against the party’s constitution and provocative.

The dispute stems from a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan last Friday that nullified the PDP national convention held on November 15, 2025.

The court also directed Kabiru Turaki and other members to stop acting as national officers of the party.

Before the judgment, PDP governors had supported the convention that produced Turaki and the National Working Committee for a four-year term.

Despite this, Wike and his allies, including Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, insisted on their positions as Acting National Chairman and Acting National Secretary.

A Wike-led 13-member caretaker committee was formed on December 8, 2025, with a 60-day mandate.

Both factions then approached INEC for recognition, which the commission initially withheld, causing tension ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following the court ruling, the Turaki-led faction announced that its legal team would file an appeal and pursue all remedies.

The Wike-backed group welcomed the decision and promised to hold a new convention to elect fresh NWC members.

INEC later recognised the caretaker committee, presenting its leaders at the commission’s quarterly meeting with political parties in Abuja.

In response, Turaki’s team urged party members to remain calm and patient while the ongoing court cases are resolved.

They assured supporters that the Turaki-led movement remains strong and committed to overcoming the challenges to unify the party ahead of future elections.
