Remi Tinubu’s US Trip Boosted Nigeria’s Image - Jimoh Ibrahim.

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has said that the recent visit of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to the United States has changed how Nigeria is viewed globally and helped correct long-standing negative narratives about the country.

In a statement issued on Friday, February 6, 2026, the senator explained that the First Lady’s participation at the 74th National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., gave Nigeria a rare opportunity to tell its story directly to influential global leaders.

Ibrahim, who is an ambassador-designate and chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, said the visit achieved what many formal diplomatic efforts struggle to do by shaping opinions at the highest level of power.

He noted that such platforms play a key role in how nations are judged internationally.

According to him, the public recognition of Mrs Tinubu by United States President Donald Trump as an ordained Christian pastor sent a strong message that counters claims that Nigeria promotes religious persecution.

He said her presence at the event showed the religious diversity and peaceful nature of the country.

The lawmaker, who represents Ondo South, added that the First Lady’s access to a global gathering of this scale reflects Nigeria’s growing influence through soft diplomacy.

He explained that global relations often depend on perception, and the visit helped present a clearer picture of Nigeria’s security and governance realities.

Ibrahim also said the appearance of the First Lady on such an international stage helped portray President Bola Tinubu as a leader committed to peace, unity, and inclusion in a multi-religious society.

He concluded that the visit is expected to improve Nigeria’s relationship with global partners, especially the United States, by correcting false narratives and building trust.

He added that the Tinubu administration remains committed to a secular system of governance and fairness, a message he believes was clearly received during the trip.

Mrs Tinubu attended the 74th National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, February 5, 2026, where she was publicly acknowledged by President Trump during the event.
