State Government Shuts Down All Schools For Two Weeks.

The Kogi State Government has ordered the closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state, placing them on an emergency break.

The decision, which took effect on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, was announced without an official explanation from the state government.

However, reports circulating within the state suggest that the move may be linked to planned security operations.

Sources say the temporary closure is meant to prevent possible attacks on schools, which are seen as easy targets during security raids.

The action is believed to be a preventive step to protect students and staff.

The Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools in Kogi State, Pastor Reuben Jimoh, informed school owners that the ongoing midterm break had been brought forward to cover the emergency period.

He explained that schools are expected to remain closed and resume academic activities on February 16, 2026, warning that no school should ignore the directive.

Some schools also sent notices to parents, informing them of the sudden break starting from February 4, 2026.

Parents were advised to ensure their children continue studying at home while waiting for further instructions on resumption.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kogi State Ministry of Education, Solomon Musa, confirmed that schools had indeed been shut down. However, he did not provide details on the reason behind the sudden action.
