The Election Petition Tribunal in Ibadan, Oyo State, has confirmed the victory of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, in the by-election for Ibadan North Federal Constituency held on August 16, 2025.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) had challenged the result, asking the court to cancel Oyekunle’s election and declare its own candidate the winner.
The SDP claimed that the by-election did not follow the rules set out in the Electoral Act 2022 and requested a new or supplementary poll in certain polling units.
Hon. Oyekunle’s legal team argued that the petition was not properly filed and asked the tribunal to dismiss it.
After reviewing the case, the tribunal, led by Justice A. M. Yakubu, found the evidence from the SDP to be inconsistent and unreliable. The court ruled that the petition had no merit.
The tribunal dismissed the SDP’s case and awarded ₦2 million in legal costs to Oyekunle and the PDP.
With this judgment, Oyekunle’s victory in the Ibadan North by-election stands, allowing him to continue representing his constituency in the House of Representatives.
