Two Serving Senators Dump PDP For APC.

Two serving senators from Taraba State, Shuaibu Isa Lau representing Taraba North and Haruna Manu representing Taraba Central, have left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the All Progressives Congress.

The lawmakers announced their decisions through separate letters sent to the Senate.

The letters were read during plenary by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, informing members of the change in party affiliation.

Lau said his decision was based on worries about how the PDP is being run internally. He explained that he no longer felt comfortable with the direction the party was taking and decided to move to the APC after giving the matter careful thought.

Manu, on his part, said his defection followed wide discussions with people in his constituency, political allies and other stakeholders.

He stated that he reviewed the current political situation and the development needs of the people he represents before deciding to leave the PDP for the ruling party.

Reacting to the development, Akpabio advised the APC leadership to handle its increasing membership wisely to avoid internal problems.

He also noted that opposition parties are closely watching the ruling party, with some already preparing to make similar moves.

With the latest defections, the party strength in the Senate has changed.

The APC now has 80 senators, while the PDP has 21. The Labour Party has two seats, while APGA, NNPP and ADC have one seat each.
