The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to put an end to a long‑running dispute within its ranks, saying it will take control of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by Monday.
Party leaders made the announcement after attending a meeting of political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the capital.
Leaders from the faction aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were present at the consultative meeting with INEC.
They sat in seats labelled for the party’s top officials, with the acting chairman in the front row and the acting national secretary behind him.
This was the first major public appearance by this group at a high‑level political gathering in the capital.
The group says a recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has settled who leads the PDP at the national level.
The court set aside the results of a convention held in November 2025 that produced a different set of national officers, declaring those results invalid.
Since that ruling, the Wike‑aligned leaders have claimed the right to run the party and its secretariat.
After the meeting, the acting national secretary said the legal decision now clears the way for his faction to move into the national headquarters without any dispute.
He added that this development should clear fears among party members who were unsure if the PDP could field candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The court decision has been part of a wider battle over control of the main opposition party, with rival groups claiming authority at different times in the past months.
The latest ruling and actions by the Wike‑backed leadership are intended to end months of uncertainty and prepare the party for the next elections.
