Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has stated that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has no role in determining his political future or that of the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Alia made it clear that his re-election bid would depend entirely on his past work, credibility, and achievements in office.
He expressed confidence that voters would make their choices based on his record rather than the influence of any single political figure.
The governor’s position was shared by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, in response to remarks by Titus Zam, who had implied that the people of Benue would follow Akume’s lead during the upcoming polls.
Alia’s team stressed that the people hold the ultimate power in deciding elections, and that performance in office and commitment to the electorate will guide voters’ decisions.
They noted that leaders who have failed to deliver on promises or have placed personal interests above public duty would face judgment from the citizens.
The statement clarified that no political leader can unilaterally determine the outcome of elections in Benue, affirming that Alia remains focused on serving the people and fulfilling the promises made to them.
