Bandits Attack Kwara Church, Kidnap Worshippers.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked an ECWA Church in the Omugo community of Ifelodun Local Government Area in Kwara State, taking several worshippers away during a Sunday service.

The incident happened on Sunday morning, March 22, 2026, while members were gathered for their weekly worship. The sudden invasion caused fear among those present and residents of the area.

Reports said the attackers entered the church premises and took some people before security operatives moved in. During the response, three of the victims were rescued, while others were still in captivity.

A local security source said about seven people were taken, although full details were still unclear at the time of the report.

The Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, confirmed the attack and the rescue of three victims. She said security forces, along with forest guards and local vigilantes, acted quickly to confront the attackers and reduce the number of victims taken.

She added that efforts were ongoing to rescue those still being held and to arrest those responsible for the attack. The state government has directed security agencies to increase their operations to ensure the safe return of the remaining victims.

The government also condemned the attack on a place of worship, describing it as wrong and unacceptable. Residents were encouraged to stay alert and support security agencies by sharing useful information that could help ongoing operations.

Officials noted that security teams have been carrying out operations in nearby forests, which have started to limit the movement of criminal groups in the area.

Authorities also assured the public that they remain committed to protecting lives and property through continued cooperation with all security groups.

Before the incident, there had been warnings about possible attacks in parts of Kwara South. Security watchers had earlier alerted residents in Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin local government areas to stay cautious due to intelligence reports of planned attacks.

In response to those warnings, security personnel, including military and paramilitary forces, had been deployed, with aerial monitoring also introduced to prevent such incidents. Residents were again advised to remain watchful and report any unusual movement.
