Former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Chief Benjamin Elue, has passed away at the age of 85.
Elue served as Deputy Governor from 1999 to 2007 during the administration of former Governor Chief James Onanefe Ibori.
His time in office is remembered as a key period in the state’s early democratic development.
Elue was seen as a trusted and loyal partner in government, working closely with Ibori to establish a governance framework that influenced subsequent administrations.
In a tribute posted on his official Facebook page, former governor Ibori described the late Elue as a loyal and dependable partner in governance.
“Heartbroken to lose my gentleman Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue. Thank you for the memories and the legacy. Rest on, Alum,” he wrote.
Immediate past Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa wrote on his social media page:
"I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our revered political leader, Chief Benjamin Sunday Elue, who served as Deputy Governor of Delta State from 1999 to 2007.
"Chief Elue was a renowned teacher, respected community leader, and astute politician whose lifestyle was worthy of emulation. His dedication to Delta’s growth and stability remains an enduring part of our shared history.
"On behalf of my family, I extend heartfelt condolences to his family, the good people of Aniocha North, and Delta State at large. May God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort all those he has left behind."
