Former Minister Dumps PDP.

A former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Jumoke Akinjide, has resigned her membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after more than two decades in the party.

Akinjide conveyed her decision in a resignation letter dated Monday, March 30, 2026, stating that the move takes immediate effect.

The former minister, who joined the PDP in 2001, said her decision followed a long period of personal reflection.

In the letter announcing her exit, Akinjide expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities it provided throughout her political career.

“I hereby formally give you notice of my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” she wrote.

Akinjide explained that leaving the party was not an easy decision given her long-standing association with it.

“This decision was not taken lightly, given the fact that I have been a member of the party since 2001,” she stated.

“I came to this difficult decision after a long period of personal reflection.”

The former minister thanked the PDP for providing a platform that enabled her participation in public service and political engagement.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a member of the party and the experiences and relationships built during my time as a member of the party,” she said.

She also wished the party success in its future political activities.

Akinjide said: “I appreciate the platform provided for political office and engagement, and I wish the party success in the future. Thank you.”

Jumoke served as FCT Minister of State in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
