Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has declared that he remains the legitimate National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
This comes after Tajudeen Baruwa and his supporters stormed the union’s national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, claiming that court rulings gave them the authority to take control.
Baruwa and six others were arrested by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police following the takeover of the secretariat.
The arrests came after security forces intervened to restore order and prevent further clashes between the rival factions.
Police confirmed that no shots were fired by officers during the incident, though some supporters were injured in the confrontation and received treatment at a nearby hospital.
Reacting to the events, MC Oluomo clarified that he was not a party to the court judgments cited by Baruwa and that the rulings are under appeal with a stay of execution in effect.
He also noted that no discussions have occurred between him and Baruwa while the legal cases are still pending.
MC Oluomo reassured NURTW members across the country that the situation is under control by security agencies and urged them to remain calm, act peacefully, and avoid any behavior that could disrupt public order.
This development adds another chapter to the long-standing leadership struggle within the NURTW, which has involved court cases, elections, and rival factions vying for control of the union’s affairs.
