A new twist has emerged in the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has moved from one faction of the party to another ahead of its national convention.
The lawmaker, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate, has now aligned with the camp loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Her decision marks a shift from the group backed by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
This development became clear on Saturday, March 22, 2026, during the inauguration of the party’s National Convention Planning and Organising Committee held in Abuja.
The event brought together key figures from the faction linked to Wike, including Senator Samuel Anyanwu and other leaders within the party’s caretaker structure.
The committee is headed by former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, who is also Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Spain.
Several prominent members of the party attended the event as preparations continue for the upcoming convention.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had earlier been seen at a separate PDP gathering in Ibadan, which was associated with the faction supported by Makinde.
That meeting has since been caught in controversy, with legal disputes surrounding its validity.
A ruling by the Court of Appeal has strengthened the position of the Wike-backed group, which is now recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the valid leadership structure of the party.
This outcome has led to fresh movements within the PDP, as members adjust to the new reality.
Her move is believed to be linked to her political future, especially as she prepares for the next general elections in 2027.
By aligning with the faction accepted by the electoral body, she appears to be securing her place within the party’s recognised leadership.
During the Abuja meeting, she also called on members who had left the party to return and take part in rebuilding its structure.
Party leaders at the event spoke about the need for unity and urged members to put aside their differences as the convention approaches.
The committee includes notable figures such as Ayodele Fayose, Samuel Ortom, and Hassan Dankwambo, along with lawmakers from the National Assembly.
The PDP has been dealing with deep internal divisions for some time, with rival groups forming parallel structures and heading to court over leadership issues.
The latest court decision appears to have shifted control toward the Wike camp, leading to fresh alignments among party members.
