The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken into custody Pastor Kelechi Benwosely Esimogu, a staff member of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), for her alleged involvement in a large-scale contract scam worth hundreds of millions of naira.
The arrest occurred on Wednesday night around 9:30 p.m. at a well-known hospitality spot in Wuse, Abuja. EFCC operatives carried out the operation smoothly, and Esimogu was immediately taken in for questioning.
Esimogu, who serves also as the Group Pastor of Power-City International in Port Harcourt, is being accused of collecting large sums of money from private companies with the promise of securing high-value contracts from the NDDC. Sources indicate that she claimed to have strong influence within the commission to convince businesses to part with funds.
Investigations revealed that multiple companies had submitted similar petitions against her after the contracts she promised never came through. The money paid by the companies was allegedly diverted, with some reportedly used for political activities.
Authorities said the suspect had avoided arrest for a long period, frequently moving between locations and failing to respond to multiple invitations from investigators. She was recently active in Imo State, where she reportedly engaged in political moves ahead of upcoming elections.
The EFCC is now probing whether the funds collected were used to support political mobilisation and other outreach efforts, as part of a broader investigation into the alleged scam.
