Nollywood actor Wale Akorede, popularly known as Okunnu, has raised concerns about the rising cost of petrol and its effects on Nigerians.
In a video shared on Instagram, the actor said that petrol prices jumped sharply in a single day, moving from ₦1,240 per litre on March 21 to ₦1,340 per litre the next day.
Okunnu questioned why fuel remains expensive in a country that produces its own crude oil.
He also raised concerns about the impact on ordinary citizens, especially low-income earners and workers like bikemen, who face challenges in affording basic needs as costs continue to rise.
He said: “Today is the 22nd of March, 2026. As of yesterday, which was the 21st, petrol was ₦1,240 per litre. Today, which is Sunday, petrol is now ₦1,340 per litre.
“Is it the government that increased it or we, Nigerians? We have our own crude oil, so why is fuel expensive? Other countries have fuel too, but theirs isn’t expensive. We are the ones responsible for this hardship.
“What of those who cannot afford basic needs? Bikemen? What will be their current situation because things will become expensive now, plus their low income?”
His remarks come at a time when Dangote Petroleum Refinery has repeatedly increased petrol prices this month.
The refinery raised its gantry price five times in March 2026, with the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit reaching ₦1,275 per litre
