Nigerian Governor Begs For Forgiveness.

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has reaffirmed his loyalty to Vice President Kashim Shettima while urging residents to pray for a worthy successor ahead of the 2027 political transition.

The governor made the appeal during a statewide address, where he also sought forgiveness for any shortcomings in his administration.

Zulum appealed to the people of the state for understanding, while reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

He sympathised with victims of insecurity, noting that their resilience remains the backbone of the state.

The governor emphasised that collective prayers and unity were crucial in overcoming the state’s challenges.

As political activities gather momentum, Zulum cautioned politicians against actions that could threaten the fragile peace in the state.

Zulum said, “My dear people, as the political season intensifies, tensions may rise. But we must align our political interests with the stark realities of our security situation.

“Let us not allow politics to undermine the hard-earned peace we have built.”

He urged aspirants and their supporters to prioritise the interest of Borno State above personal ambitions.

The governor reiterated his allegiance to Vice President Kashim Shettima, stressing that his loyalty remains unquestionable.

“Since assuming office in 2019, I have been fair, just, and inclusive in my dealings with the entire political class. My loyalty to His Excellency, the Vice President, need not be overemphasized,” Zulum said.

He added that he had maintained trust with political stakeholders across both state and national levels.

“I have never betrayed the trust of members of the national and state assemblies, as well as political office holders of Borno extraction,” he stated.

Zulum also issued a stern warning to individuals aiding insurgents, declaring that anyone providing support to criminal elements would face the law.

He said such collaborators, whether offering information, shelter, or logistics, would be identified, tracked, and prosecuted.

The governor commended President Bola Tinubu for releasing funds to support the Multi-National Joint Task Force and other military operations.

He described the intervention as critical in sustaining the fight against insurgency.

Zulum also appreciated Vice President Shettima for representing the President during a recent sympathy visit to the state.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Zulum urged residents to remain united and prayerful as the state prepares for a new leadership.

He added, “As we look to the future and choose a new leader for our state, I urge all citizens to pray fervently for a worthy successor.

“Let me remind us that power belongs to Allah and He grants it to whom He wills.”

He also warned political actors against being used to create instability, stressing the need to preserve peace in the state.
