Nigerian Military Gives Terrorists Chance To Surrender.

The Nigerian military has revealed a new approach in dealing with terrorists, offering them an opportunity to surrender and repent rather than immediately resorting to lethal force.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Oluyede, explained that this strategy is aimed at reducing violence while still maintaining national security.

During the Nigerian Armed Forces’ inaugural lecture at the Joint Doctrine Centre in Abuja, Oluyede addressed concerns from citizens asking why security forces do not simply eliminate terrorists, especially after deadly attacks.

He noted that many of those involved in violent activities are Nigerians, and giving them a chance to change their ways could prevent further bloodshed.

The Chief of Defence Staff explained that the approach is not about being lenient but about creating an opportunity for terrorists to abandon violence.

By offering a chance to surrender, the military hopes to break the cycle of attacks and reduce hostility in affected communities.

Oluyede compared the strategy to lessons from the Bible, noting that even in cases of wrongdoing, there is a chance for repentance.

He stressed that pushing individuals to the extreme—leaving them no option but confrontation—could worsen the situation and increase violence across the country.
