The governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has declared that no Northerner should run for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027.
He stated this during an interview on Channels TV.
He stated that it is the South’s turn to lead and that the region should complete its eight-year tenure in office if the country wants to move forward.
Fintiri, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), said that allowing the South to hold the presidency uninterrupted will ensure fairness and stability in national governance.
He said: "Nobody in the North has business to contest for the presidency at the moment. It is the South's turn; they should complete their eight years if we are really serious about this country and leadership."
In other news, the first son of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Adamu, has resigned from his position as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State.
In a resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, and addressed to Governor Fintiri, Adamu said his decision was the result of deep personal reflection and careful consideration.
While describing his time in office as a privilege, Atiku’s son expressed gratitude to Fintiri for the opportunity to serve.
Adamu also appreciated the people of Adamawa State for their support during his tenure and prayed that God would continue to guide and strengthen the state.
