NYSC Corps Members Now Covered By Life, Health Insurance.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that all corps members are fully insured throughout their service year.

This coverage includes both life and medical insurance and starts as soon as call-up letters are issued, even before members leave their homes.

The NYSC Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, spoke about the insurance program during a visit by Jibrin Ndace, Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), in Abuja.

He shared examples of the scheme in action, including a ₦28 million payout to help a pregnant corps member and her unborn child recover from a spinal injury and ₦33 million for prosthetic arms for another member who suffered a road accident.

Nafiu also called on journalists to confirm information with the NYSC before reporting, warning against the spread of false reports.

He explained that corps postings are planned to serve national needs while protecting the safety of members. He added that the program is apolitical and non-religious, aiming to foster national unity.

During the visit, Nafiu commended Ndace for his leadership at VON, while Ndace recognized Nafiu’s modern approach to managing the NYSC.

VON reiterated its commitment to supporting youth programs and showcasing the work of corps members internationally.
