Otti Grants Jobs, Scholarships to Abia Varsity First-Class Graduates.

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced that all first-class graduates of Abia State University, Uturu, will receive automatic appointments as graduate assistants once they complete their National Youth Service.

The announcement came during the university’s combined 30th to 32nd convocation ceremony.

In addition to job offers, Otti revealed that first-class graduates from these graduating sets will be awarded scholarships for postgraduate studies up to the doctoral level at any public university in Nigeria.

This opportunity also extends to top students from each department with a cumulative grade point average of at least 4.25.

The governor instructed the state Head of Service to identify areas in the civil service that can accommodate 100 exceptional graduates, with priority given to students in Education, Computer Science, Statistics, Health and Medical Sciences, and other key fields.

Otti also allocated N200 million to support up to 100 graduates with innovative business ideas, particularly in agriculture, ICT, and clean energy, with proposals due by April 30, 2026.

During the ceremony, the governor presented a personal cash gift of N5 million to the overall best graduating student, Oluchi Etumsi.

He also recognized honorary award recipients, including Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Allen Onyema, and Stella Okoli, encouraging them to uphold the values tied to their awards.

Otti noted his administration’s focus on improving the university’s infrastructure and flagged off the reconstruction of the Abia State University International Secondary School.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ndukwe Okeudo, praised the governor for clearing staff salary backlogs and listed ongoing projects, including a new Faculty of Law, hostels for 5,000 students, road construction, solar streetlights, and new engineering equipment.

The convocation brought together vice-chancellors from other universities, academics, and senior government officials.

The Chancellor, Catherine Uju-Ifejika, and Pro-Chancellor, Agwu U. Agwu, commended the governor for his support, noting that his initiatives were improving the university’s standards and global standing.
