Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Muyiwa John Adetola as the new Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary of the State Treasury Office.
The announcement was conveyed in an official circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service and shared on the Lagos State Government’s Facebook page on Tuesday.
Adetola’s appointment followed the statutory retirement of his predecessor, Abiodun Muritala, who served as the state’s Accountant-General.
The new appointee assumed office with effect from Monday, March 2, 2026.
Until his elevation, Adetola was the State Auditor-General. He was subsequently redeployed to head the State Treasury Office in what government officials described as a strategic move to strengthen public financial administration.
In the statement announcing the development, the Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, congratulated Adetola and urged all stakeholders to support him in his new role.
He called for cooperation to ensure a seamless transition in line with the directives contained in the circular.
“The strategic redeployment demonstrates the State Government’s commitment to ensuring efficiency, accountability, and continuity in public financial management,” the statement added.
The circular confirmed that the appointment took immediate effect from March 2, signalling the state government’s resolve to maintain stability in the treasury office following Muritala’s exit.
