Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has removed two members of his cabinet from office indefinitely for failing to carry out their duties effectively.
The affected officials, Engr. Stanley Lebechi-Mbam, who oversees the Ministry of Works, and Engr. Ogbonnaya Obasi-Abara, responsible for Infrastructure Development for Concession, have been ordered to hand over all government property, including official vehicles, to the Secretary to the State Government immediately.
The governor’s office did not provide further details on the specific failures that led to the suspension.
The decision was confirmed in a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, on February 28, 2026.
Following the suspension, Lebechi-Mbam publicly apologized, acknowledging the responsibilities of leadership and accepting accountability for the lapses under his watch.
He described Governor Nwifuru as a mentor and pledged loyalty, promising to reassess operations, strengthen weak areas, and ensure improved service delivery if given another opportunity.
