President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially declared that governors will serve as leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in their respective states.
The announcement comes after some confusion over party leadership following the defection of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to the APC.
Before Fintiri joined the party, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, was seen as the main figure leading the APC.
With Fintiri’s move, questions arose about the rightful leadership in Adamawa.
At a recent event, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, confirmed that Fintiri now holds the top APC position in the state according to party hierarchy.
The event, held at Ribadu Square in Adamawa State, drew thousands of supporters from all 21 local government areas, braving intense heat to witness the presentation of the party flag and the formal welcome of Fintiri.
Governors from the All Progressive Governors Forum, including Hope Uzodimma, attended to support the announcement.
Party leaders, including APC National Chairman Prof Nentawe Yilwatda and State Chairman Shuaibu Idris, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for reforms that have attracted many new members.
Fintiri’s inclusion was described as a boost for the party and a move that could strengthen APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governor Fintiri stated that his decision to join APC aligns with the government’s policies and programs, and he aims to work with the President to advance development in the state.
