The University of Jos has canceled all examinations planned for Monday and Tuesday due to rising tension in the city following a violent attack in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. Students and staff have been advised to stay indoors and be cautious.
According to eyewitnesses, gunmen on motorcycles stormed the community around 7:30 pm while residents were going about their evening activities.
The attackers opened fire randomly, causing panic. Several people were killed, and many others were injured during the assault.
After the attack, local youths reportedly blocked roads in anger and targeted motorcycle riders and passengers.
The university’s Deputy Registrar for Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, explained that the attack, which affected areas where many staff and students live, led to the decision to postpone the exams.
He also urged the university community to avoid moving early in the morning and to report any threat to the University Security Division immediately.
University management is coordinating with security agencies and continues to monitor the situation closely to protect students, staff, and residents.
